Charlamagne & iHeart Mark 5 Years of ‘The Black Effect’

A Milestone Moment for Black Media
Five years after its landmark launch, The Black Effect Podcast Network, created by Charlamagne Tha God and iHeartMedia, stands as a beacon for Black storytelling, empowerment, and innovation in the podcasting space.
Launched in 2020 with a mission to amplify Black voices and perspectives, the network has grown into one of the most influential media platforms in the world. Today, it celebrates a five-year journey defined by growth, purpose, and cultural impact.
“Our mission has always been to build a dedicated platform where Black voices can thrive,” said Charlamagne Tha God. “We have accomplished that mission and more. The past five years have been extraordinary, and the future of The Black Effect excites us. We will keep inspiring, empowering, and creating culture and opportunities for all.”
Building a Legacy: The Numbers Speak
Since its inception, The Black Effect Podcast Network has reshaped the media landscape with a growing portfolio of more than 60 shows, including The Breakfast Club, R&B Money, All The Smoke, Drink Champs, and 85 South Show. Over the next year, the network plans to add 10 new titles, expanding its already robust lineup.
With 11 million monthly downloads, The Black Effect’s reach continues to grow, underscoring the hunger for authentic, culturally relevant content. The network has also ventured into new genres — including Parenting, True Crime, and Literature — with additions like Good Moms, Bad Choices, Hunting 4 Answers, and two Black Effect originals, BLK LIT and Family Therapy.
Recognition, Reach, and Representation
From the NAACP Image Awards to the Webby Awards, The Black Effect Podcast Network has earned critical acclaim for storytelling and social impact. Its influence extends beyond podcasting, with partnerships that amplify the power of Black creativity.

“The Black Effect Podcast Network is a testament to what happens when talent meets opportunity,” said Dollie S. Bishop, President of The Black Effect Podcast Network. “As we celebrate this major milestone, we remain committed to uplifting the power of Black media representation, shaping the future for Black creators, amplifying unique voices, and leading boldly into the next era of culture and creativity.”
Expanding the Brand Beyond Audio
The success of The Black Effect doesn’t stop at the mic. The network has partnered with major brands, including AT&T and Nissan, and created signature live experiences, such as The Black Effect Podcast Festival, which brings fans, hosts, and creatives together for impactful conversations and community celebrations.
In 2025, The Black Effect expanded further with two landmark partnerships — The Drink Champs Podcast Network and the forthcoming All The Smoke Podcast Network — both designed to strengthen the brand’s position as a cultural powerhouse.
A Lasting Cultural Footprint
Half a decade in, The Black Effect Podcast Network remains a force for progress — blending purpose and entertainment while paving the way for the next generation of storytellers. It continues to redefine how media serves, represents, and celebrates the diversity of the Black experience.
The network’s impact is visible not just in the numbers, but in the stories it tells — stories that inform, inspire, and empower. For Charlamagne Tha God and iHeartMedia, the past five years mark only the beginning of an even bolder vision.
