Fayetteville Future Black History Makers: Meet Morgan Floyd
Morgan Floyd, 14, the daughter of Monique James, is in eighth grade at Spring Lake Middle School.
She was nominated as a Fayetteville Observer Future Black History Maker because, “During my first encounter with Morgan, she was truly upset because she thought she had received a B during process reports thinking it dropped from an A,” writes school social worker Capricia Smalls, who nominated her. “Morgan has maintained A and B her entire time for grades 6-8. She is now in eighth grade taking high school Math 1 and is determined to not let it defeat her, though she feels math is her weak subject. Along with taking her grades seriously, Morgan has also managed to be a star athlete across three sports: track and field, soccer and basketball. On each team, she has been considered a top performer and defined as a student-athlete by her coaches. Morgan is also the president of our school marching band. Her mom continues to work hard to create a stable home environment for her and her sister. Morgan has been able to continue to strive for excellence despite the adversity her family has faced.”

What’s your favorite subject in school? Science, because … without science, we would be nothing. The world as we know it would cease to exist.
What do you want to be when you grow up? An actor, or something working with animals.
Do you have any hobbies? What do you like to do for fun? Hair, nails, sports.
What are you really good at doing? I think I am very good at being funny, like I … feel that I am great at lightening the mood when it is gloomy.
What’s your favorite thing about yourself? I try to give 100 in everything I do. I personally feel what is the point for doing anything if you’re not going to give your all?
Who is your role model? Millie Bobby Brown. She is my role model because I am inspired by how young her acting journey started and what she turned it into.
If you could meet any famous person, who would it be and why? Halle Bailey, because she just seems so sweet and down to earth, I feel as if I would not be judged around her.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? Tokyo, because of the culture, food, style and things to do
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and how would you use it? I would want to be able to teleport. I would travel to places and get there fast just in case of an emergency
What’s your favorite movie or TV show? “Stranger Things.” I love the action, romance and storyline.
If you could eat one thing every day, what would it be? Pizza because you can put so many toppings on it so you wouldn’t really have to worry about getting tired of it.

What makes your child a Future Black History Maker? She never stops trying. If she wants to know something or do something she is going to find out or learn how. She has no limits. She is limitless.
Why are you proud of your child? I’m proud of her because I see her and I know she can do anything!
