Gabi Quick is a Fayetteville Observer Future Black History Maker
Gabrielle “Gabi” Quick, 18, the daughter of Ruby Quick and Randolph Quick, is a senior at Massey Hill Classical High School in Fayetteville.
She’s one of The Fayetteville Observer’s 2026 Future Black History Makers because “Gabi’s name has become synonymous with excellence at Massey Hill Classical H.S. Throughout her entire academic career, she has maintained a rigorous standard of achievement which has placed her at the top of this year’s graduating class,” writes Jessica Osnoe, an instructor and speech and debate coach at Massey Hill and one of Gabi’s nominators.
“Gabi also has played a leadership role in several student organizations, culminating in her selection as president of our student government association and one of the speech and debate team captains. While her time in speech and debate predates my role as team coach, Gabi’s reputation and standard of work made her a standout figure. As a competitor in Informative Speaking, an event which requires students to write and present a memorized speech designed to inform audiences about a topic, Gabi has chosen topics which not only reflect her personal interest, but reveal a keen and inquiring mind which understands the power of words. Over the past three years, Gabi has educated audiences on Black superheroes, the death penalty, and on the implementation or absence of justice. Her topic choices show not only her circumspect consideration of our world and her application of learning, but an eagerness for her voice and her work to matter, as well as a desire to spread that eagerness to her audience. When people are around Gabi, they’re not awed by her ideas and actions; they’re inspired to do likewise in whatever ways they can. This is one of Gabi’s greatest strengths as a speaker, a leader, and a Future Black History Maker: she radiates her belief in the power of growth and the possibility of change — things we desperately need in our world.”
