Londyn Young is a Fayetteville Observer Future Black History Maker
Londyn Young, 12, the daughter of Katrina Young and the late Douglas Young, is in seventh grade at Seventy-First Classical Middle School in Fayetteville.
She’s one of The Fayetteville Observer’s 2026 Future Black History Makers because “Londyn Young exemplifies resilience, passion, and excellence through her accomplishments as a competitive dancer,” writes her aunt, Kristle Rouse, who nominated her. “After losing her father at just 4 years old, Londyn found healing and purpose through dance. What began as an outlet quickly became a calling. Her natural talent and dedication led her to join the competition team, where she continues to shine.
“Today, Londyn is a proud member of the Cumberland Dance Academy and participates in … various competitions across North Carolina. Her hard work and artistry have earned her numerous awards and scholarships from prestigious dance events. Beyond her technical skill, Londyn’s grace, perseverance, and spirit embody what it means to rise above challenges and inspire others.

What are your career aspirations?
I would like to become a cosmetologist/special effects makeup artist.
Do you have any hobbies? What do you like to do for fun?
I enjoy dancing, cheering, crocheting, playing Roblox with my best friends, and traveling.
Do you have any talents? What are they?
I’m a competitive dancer, and I play the violin.
What’s your favorite thing about yourself?
My favorite thing about myself is my unique birthmark on my face.
Who is someone you admire, even if they don’t know it?
Beyonce, A’ja Wilson, and my Mom.
If you could meet any famous person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Michael Jackson, I would have loved to meet him because I love his music and his unique dance style.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I would go to Japan to experience authentic Japanese cuisine, culture, and visit Tokyo Disney.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and how would you use it?
My superpower would be time travel to go back and spend time with my dad and go to a Michael Jackson concert.
What’s your favorite movie, TV show and/or book?
My favorite movie is “Life Size,” my favorite TV show is “Peppa Pig,” my favorite book is “The Outsiders.”
If you could eat one thing every day, what would it be?
I would eat Chick-fil-A every day.

Why are you proud of your child?
I am extremely proud of Londyn for her willingness to help and support others. I also admire her creativity and the way she expresses herself through her ideas, hobbies, and talents. Most of all, I am proud of her dedication to improving academically, as she has maintained her honor roll status.
